Campaign Contributions?

In the twenties we had a big problem with bribery in our government. Today isn’t the same thing still happening with campaign contributions? Don’t people that help senators get elected have a say in how they vote? So why can’t the healthcare industry and insurance industry influence the decision behind socialized healthcare? Can someone explain this system to me? Links would be greatly appreciated if anyone knows a good website. I will vote for best answer. Thanks!!!!

One Response to “Campaign Contributions?”

  1. The Zeitgeist says:

    Really, it’s quite simple.

We say we live in a democracy, but in reality, we don’t.

The corporations that make up Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Agra, Big Bizz, etc. decide how they want to screw the average American. If it isn’t legal yet, they fund the campaigns of those politicians sleazy enough to write legislation that allows them to have their way.

Usually, Big Bizz hedges its bets by funding candidates on both sides of the aisle (Dems and Reps). This is why it sometimes feels that it doesn’t matter who is in charge. It doesn’t.

Once elected, the average politician votes for legislation that allows corporations to pollute our environment, employ undocumented workers, steal money from taxpayers, etc.

The only difference between most politicians is who their greatest loyalties are to. With the last administration, it was to Big Oil and the defense industry (read: Haliburton). With this administration, it is to the banks, such as Goldman Sachs and AIG. Either way, the outcome is the same: taxpayers pay while big bizz makes profit.

To insure that the farce isn’t detected, big bizz pays for advertising that tells the average American how to vote. Then, joe six-pack goes to the voting booth thinking that he has a choice. He doesn’t. Either way, he is screwed. The only difference is the color of the banners at the victory speech.

The only way to end this broken system is to create PUBLICLY FINANCED ELECTIONS!!!

Then we might feel what democracy is supposed to be.
